What are PDO threads?
Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are thin medical grade suture threads that come in two main types: smoothing and lifting. Both types of PDO threads are placed under the skin to combat aging by provoking the body’s healing response. Harnessing this healing response causes your body to build collagen and also causes biostimulation so your skin develops better blood flow. Improved blood flow will tighten your skin and improve the skin’s texture and appearance.
- Lifting threads are designed to pull up and re-drape the skin. While they provide an immediate “lift” to sagging skin, the look improves over time as collagen and blood flow improve. PDO lifting threads can be used to lift tissue in the cheek, jowl, marionette line, or neck region.
- Smooth threads are placed under the skin in a hashtag pattern to bring back blood flow, repairing and tightening the skin while building collagen in the area treated. Smoothing threads can be placed in nearly any area on the body to improve the appearance of acne scars, sagging or crepey skin. Commonly treated areas include frown lines, marionette lines, neck, decolletage, and cheeks.
PDO Threads used at Revive Aesthetics
Revive Aesthetics uses V Soft PDO threads. This type of absorbable sterile thread is loaded in a hypodermic cannula which is placed just under the skin in the area to be treated. The thread is fully absorbed in about 6 months although this can vary based on the thickness of the thread and your body’s rate of metabolism.
What to expect during treatment
Your face will be cleansed before a topical numbing agent or injection of a local anesthetic will be applied. The PDO thread is then inserted into the appropriate layer of skin. For PDO lifting threads, the excess thread is then cut off.
What to expect from the results
Some results of the treatment, such as skin lifting and mild contouring effects, are visible immediately after treatment.* The final results of your treatment will be seen within one to two months after your final treatment.* However, this timing does depend on your age; age is one of the leading factors in how quickly your body produces new, healthy collagen. While smooth threads are typically repeated once monthly for three treatments, lifting threads are generally completed in one treatment.* Further enhancement with additional lifting threads may be added one month after your initial treatment.
